087 - Dr. Stefania Pecore

Tue Dec 09 2025

Listen

Today’s guest is someone who has lived at the intersection of language, learning, and artificial intelligence long before most of the world was paying attention. Stefania began her journey with a degree in language studies, then moved into machine learning with her first master’s in 2011. She went on to complete a second master’s in natural language processing, followed by a doctorate in artificial intelligence — and later a postdoc at the University of Ottawa, finishing just before the release of ChatGPT. So she’s not just familiar with AI — she’s been shaping the field for over a decade. She now works with UNESCO as an AI ethics expert, and after her postdoc she launched “Don’t Tech Stress,” a platform dedicated to helping non-technical people understand AI and supporting founders as they build AI-powered products. In this episode of Making the Metaverse, Michael Carter interviews Dr. Stefania Pecore, who shares her journey from a small town in Italy to becoming a prominent figure in AI and language learning. They discuss the challenges of navigating identity as an immigrant, the evolution of AI, its applications in mental health, and the importance of ethics in technology. Stefania emphasizes the need for curiosity and collaboration in the tech industry, particularly in supporting women in tech. The conversation concludes with insights on personal growth and the transformative power of AI. Connect with Stefania here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stefaniapecore/ *********** Shout out to my friends over at Feedspot. They have consistently rated our show one of the top ten metaverse podcasts in the history of the universe. Check them out at https://blog.feedspot.com/metaverse_podcasts
