Chinese billionaire trader Bian’s historic $144 million silver short has stunned global markets. Leveraging insider-level timing, he built the largest net short position on the Shanghai Futures Exchange, totaling 30,000 contracts or roughly 450 tons of silver.
In late January 2026, just before silver prices collapsed, Bian scaled up his short exposure; triggering a $300 million mark-to-market profit. Despite earlier forced liquidations, his net profit stands at 1 billion yuan (~$144M).
This is the same trader who made $3 billion from gold longs between 2022 and 2024. Now, he's back and this time, he's dominating the silver market.
