The United States may be approaching a genuine breaking point.
Across the country, two increasingly irreconcilable visions of America are colliding: one side demanding order, enforcement, and the restoration of state while the other viewing enforcement itself as illegitimate, immoral, or existentially dangerous.
To explore this divide, Break The Rules brings together two voices who both want a high-trust society, but disagree sharply on how such a society can be rebuilt.
Auron MacIntyre: a political writer and commentator focused on state capacity, legitimacy, and institutional breakdown in the modern West. He has contributed to The Blaze and other outlets, and has appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight and related programs discussing law, enforcement, and the limits of liberal governance.
He is the author of The Total State: How Liberal Democracies Become Tyrannies (2024), a critical examination of how modern liberal democracies can drift toward authoritarian outcomes through emergency powers, bureaucratic expansion, and weakened constitutional constraints. Drawing on his experience as a journalist during the Trump presidency and the COVID-19 pandemic, MacIntyre analyzes censorship, surveillance, selective enforcement, and the growth of unaccountable administrative power, questioning whether democratic systems reliably restrain authority—or instead enable its expansion under crisis conditions.
