The Mystery Knight (Book) and sport psychology

Mon Jan 19 2026

Listen

“Every wedding needs a singer, and every tourney needs a mystery knight.” The Blackfyre Rebellion is long over—so put your differences aside, grab some salt beef and ale, and take a seat by the fire. We hedge knights stick together. Our literary journey concludes as we discuss The Mystery Knight, the third novella in George R. R. Martin’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. An older and slightly wiser version of our favorite scrappy duo makes their way north, only to find themselves surrounded by spies, sorcerers, and traitors. In this episode, I talk about Egg’s newfound decision-making skills—even if a prince sometimes prefers a straw bed to the hard ground. I also explore Dunk’s strong mental game despite his lack of skill in the tilt (he’s better with a sword), and his ethical stand at his lowest moment. Better to live as a beggar than to be a charlatan. It may be a wrap on Movie House Book Club, but our journey with Dunk and Egg is far from over. Stay tuned for upcoming episodes on the HBO series. In the meantime, step forth and prove your valor by checking out this episode.
