1. DPS Transportation Guide To Printing Student QR Codes (Abigail Amane)
At the beginning of the school year, DPS Transportation launched a new app called My Ride K-12. With this app, parents receive late bus alerts, view route information and check their student’s bus location.
Scanning on and off our buses is mandatory and students are required to have a QR code on their phone or printed ID. Due to these new requirements, DPS Transportation created an instructional sheet, linked in our shownotes, that walks families through the process of finding, printing, and/or placing the QR codes on your student’s phone.
To ensure that the My Ride K-12 app is functioning properly, DPS Transportation is asking that parents and students frequently use the app.
If you have questions, please email the Transportation department.
2. A Passion Project: Cherie Eickstaedt Makes Winter Hats to Keep Students Warm https://youtu.be/zOpcgTpY60U?si=ZdzJvrvkFOei-Cko
At Ellis Elementary, students stay warm each winter thanks to the passionate generosity of community member Cherie Eickstaedt. Now 94 and a half years old, Cherie began creating colorful hats and donating them to DPS students more than a decade ago. Each unique beanie reminds students that there are people in their community who care deeply about them.
3. The Pool is for Everyone: The Manual High School Girls Swim Team https://youtu.be/BK5bUoRSVxs
For the first time in more than 20 years, Manual High School has a girls swim team, built from the ground up by students who wanted access to a sport they hadn’t been offered before.
The story follows a diverse group of girls as they train, compete and step into a space where opportunity and representation have not always been equal. Along the way, they are building confidence, community and a team of their own.
Watch the full story to see their journey as they compete and learn the means to show up, stick with it, and belong.
4.Submit Student Artwork for the Chance to be Featured in the Superintendent’s Notecards
All student artists are encouraged to submit original artwork for a special opportunity. Selected art pieces may be turned into greeting cards used by our Superintendent throughout the year! This is a chance for students to share their creativity, celebrate their voice and have their art seen and shared across DPS and beyond. The submission link is in our shownotes.

North High 9th grader Karlina won a Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Gold Key in the Personal Essay & Memoir Category for her piece "Crown of Thorn and Thought". She is one of few 9th graders to earn Gold in this category and was considered within a pool of high schoolers across CO, CA, NV, WA, OR, and HI. Because of her Regional Gold Key, KArLina's work will now be considered for a National Award and a potential scholarship. Good luck Karlina!
