Your Therapist Needs Therapy 134 - Protecting Power Over Children

Wed Feb 04 2026

Listen

This episode examines why America repeatedly defends powerful men and institutions accused of sexual harm while claiming moral outrage about “protecting children.” From QAnon’s fantasy villains to Donald Trump’s continued political protection, from cultural call-outs like Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us to the church’s billion-dollar abuse coverups, the pattern is the same: accountability stops where power begins. The uncomfortable truth of America’s colonial mindset is that saving children has always been optional, protecting power is non-negotiable. To learn more about the upcoming retreat check out Rest & Return: A Weekend for Soft Landings. Emily has been on the show a bunch (episodes 37, 92, and 100), but if you missed those you can learn more about her at Integrative Wellness Therapies & Consultation. As always, Jeremy has all his practice info at Wellness with Jer, and you can find him on Instagram and YouTube. To show your love for the show you can pick up some merch! We appreciate support from likes, follows, and shares as well! None of my online work would be possible without my media maven Kenny, so check out their work as well at kenlingdesign.com ----- Podcasts about therapy do not replace actual therapy, and listening to a podcast about therapy does not signify a therapeutic relationship. If you or someone you know is in crisis please call or text the nationwide crisis line at 988, or text HELLO to 741741. The Trevor Project has a crisis line for LGBTQ+ young people that can be reached by texting 678678.
