7 Best Meltwater Alternatives in 2026

Meltwater's own indicative pricing starts at $10,000 a year, contracts run at least 12 months and auto-renew unless you give 60 days' written notice, and Trustpilot reviewers describe renewals they could not get out of. And if the part you use most is the journalist database, you are paying for a full monitoring suite to get it.

Below are the tools we would look at instead, sorted by what you need Meltwater for: pitching, monitoring, or both.

By the PodPitch team. Updated .

PodPitch holds the highest G2 rating of any tool on this page (5.0 of 5), so it is listed first. Every other tool was checked against its own pricing page and public reviews, and where another tool is the better fit for a specific job, we say so. How we picked.

Why people look for Meltwater alternatives

Five-figure pricing, quoted only on a call

Meltwater's pricing page lists four plans and no prices. Its own July 2026 blog post puts Starter from $10,000 a year, Pro from $25,000 and Enterprise from $130,000. Buyers on Vendr report a median contract of $25,800 a year.

Auto-renewal with a 60-day notice window

Meltwater's FAQ sets a 12-month minimum and calls 36 months standard. Its general terms make fees payable in advance and non-refundable, and renew the contract at then-current prices unless you give written notice 60 days before term end. Lock-in is the main theme on Trustpilot, where Meltwater sits at 1.7 out of 5.

Outreach is a side module

Meltwater's own blog says Starter is usually built around media monitoring or social intelligence. Its database claims 800,000+ contacts, but a TrustRadius reviewer calls the outreach "good for large email blasts, but not targeted pitching", and an r/PublicRelations thread complains about outdated contacts.

1. PodPitch

Best for
Teams that use Meltwater mainly to find and pitch journalists, podcasts and newsletter writers
Pricing
Quoted on a free demo call. Plans are billed every 3, 6 or 12 months (longer terms cost less) and include unlimited users. There is no free plan.
Coverage
4 million podcasts, 3 million journalists and Substack writers, drawn from 1.1 billion email addresses that refresh daily. See the database.

Meltwater's media relations module gives you a list, AI drafting help and an email tool. PodPitch runs the outreach itself. Describe your company or a client and it searches 4 million podcasts, 3 million journalists and Substack newsletter writers, scores each for fit, writes a pitch that mentions the host's recent episodes or the writer's recent articles in your voice, and sends it from your own Gmail or Outlook. Up to two automatic follow-ups go out, anyone who replies drops out, and replies land sorted in Magic Inbox.

The contract is the other difference. PodPitch plans are billed every 3, 6 or 12 months, longer terms cost less, and every plan includes unlimited users and client profiles. Meltwater invoices annually upfront, prices by modules, users, searches and regions, and auto-renews unless you send notice 60 days ahead.

Be clear about what PodPitch is not. It has no social listening, no sentiment dashboards and no broadcast or print monitoring; Monitor is keyword alerts by email across podcast transcripts, news articles and newsletters. Where Meltwater is a listening suite, PodPitch is a booking machine: 3.6M+ pitches sent and 26,000+ bookings recorded. If monitoring is why you pay for Meltwater, pair PodPitch with Brand24 at $199 a month and still come out far ahead of a $25,800-a-year suite.

Where PodPitch beats Meltwater

  • Writes each pitch from the show's recent episodes or the writer's recent articles, in your voice. Meltwater offers pitch drafting; a TrustRadius reviewer says its outreach suits email blasts more than targeted pitches.
  • Sends up to two automatic follow-ups per contact and stops when someone replies. Meltwater supports manual follow-ups; we found no automated sequences.
  • Covers 4 million podcasts and Substack writers alongside 3 million journalists. Meltwater claims 800,000+ journalists and media contacts; podcast and Substack contacts are not documented on its site.
  • Unlimited users and client profiles on every plan. Meltwater prices by users, searches, modules and regions.
  • Billed every 3, 6 or 12 months instead of a 12-month minimum (36 months is Meltwater's standard term).

Up to two follow-ups per contact. Anyone who replies drops out of the sequence automatically.

“The outreach is meaningful since it references actual episodes from each podcast it pitches to. We have literally gotten more responses and booked podcasts than we can keep up with.”
Todd K., Marketing Coordinator, verified G2 review (Oct 2026)
“We've booked so many more podcasts than I was ever able to secure on my own. This is the best tool I've invested in, including Cision and MuckRack!”

“The database is insane. The fact that, when it writes your email, it mentions past episodes is a huge HUGE timesaver for us.”
Sarah Spiegel, Founder, Sarah PR

Pitch, booking and team counts come from PodPitch's own send records, counted on October 21, 2026 (MagicPitch LinkedIn campaigns excluded). G2 figures are from PodPitch's G2 page on the same date, where G2 displays a 5.0 rating from 8 reviews: the highest G2 rating of any PR or podcast outreach tool compared on this site.

What you gain by switching

  • Every pitch written and sent for you, with automatic follow-ups.
  • Podcasts and Substack newsletters in the same search as journalists.
  • Unlimited users and client profiles, so agencies stop counting seats.
  • A 3, 6 or 12 month term instead of a 12-month minimum.
  • Magic Inbox for replies and Booked Media for a log of what each campaign landed.

What you give up

  • No press release distribution.
  • Journalist and Substack outreach were added in 2025, on top of the podcast outreach PodPitch was built on.
  • Pricing is shared on a demo call, not a public page, and search results deserve a human check before automatic sending, as with any outreach tool.

How to switch from Meltwater

  1. 1Find your Meltwater term end date and send written non-renewal notice at least 60 days before it, the window in Meltwater's general terms. Save the media lists and reply history you built before access ends.
  2. 2Book a PodPitch demo with a real topic or client. The rep runs a live search and shows you the pitches PodPitch would send.
  3. 3Connect your Gmail or Outlook, add writing samples so pitches sound like you, and review the first batch before turning on automatic sending.
  4. 4If you still need social listening or broadcast monitoring, pair PodPitch with a monitoring tool such as Brand24, from $199 a month billed annually.

How we picked these alternatives

We checked every vendor's pricing page on October 21, 2026. Where a vendor quotes only on a call, we used the ranges published by Vendr, SpendHound and the UK G-Cloud 14 rate cards, named in the text. Ratings come from G2, Capterra, TrustRadius and Trustpilot on the same date; complaints come from those reviews and r/PublicRelations threads, each attributed.

We weighted three things: whether the tool replaces the part of Meltwater you use most (monitoring, outreach or both), what it costs and how hard the contract is to leave, and how recent and specific the reviews are. A monitoring-only tool was not marked down for lacking outreach, and the reverse.

PodPitch is our product, which is why it sits first, and it holds the higher G2 rating (5.0 against Meltwater's 4.1). We have tried to be as plain about its gaps (no social listening, no broadcast, a newer journalist side) as about anyone else's.

2. Muck Rack

Visit site
Best for
PR teams and agencies that want database, pitching, monitoring and reporting in one tool
Pricing
Quote only. About $5,000 per seat per year to start; typical signed contracts run $8,000 to $21,000 a year (Vendr median $13,000), and Reddit users report $25,000 to $50,000 and up for five or more seats. Annual contract, billed in advance.

Muck Rack is the most direct swap for Meltwater's media relations side: journalist and outlet search by beat and recent coverage, pitching from Gmail or Outlook, and monitoring with coverage reports. It rates higher than Meltwater on G2 (4.5 from 538 reviews against 4.1 from 2,677), and a Reddit commenter calls it "the most expensive, but... the most up to date and accurate database". Print and broadcast monitoring, social listening and press release distribution are add-ons. More on the Muck Rack alternatives page.

Strengths

  • G2 4.5 out of 5 from 538 reviews; the top themes are ease of use and database quality.
  • Monitors 2.4 million+ podcasts (75,000+ with full English transcripts) on Standard and Premier at no extra cost.
  • Pitches from your own Gmail or Outlook with open and click tracking; newsletter authors have been in the database since 2021.

Weaknesses

  • Seat-based and quote only: Reddit users report $1,500 to add a seat and price bumps at renewal.
  • G2 tags Data Inaccuracy (21) and Limited Coverage (15); Capterra reviewers mention bounces and old emails.
  • No automated follow-up sequences, and auto-renewal is the default.

Choose Muck Rack if you want a PR-first suite with a well-reviewed journalist database and are fine with an annual, seat-based contract.

3. Cision

Visit site
Best for
Mid-market and enterprise comms teams that want monitoring, a database and a newswire from one vendor
Pricing
Quote only. Vendr puts the median at $12,625 a year (range $3,150 to $30,368); SpendHound reports an average of $10,618 a year at companies with 50 to 1,000 employees. Wires are billed per release. No free trial.

Cision is the other large enterprise PR suite. CisionOne bundles a database of 500,000+ journalists and outlets, monitoring across print, online, TV, radio, podcasts and social, dashboards and AI pitch drafting, with PR Newswire and PRWeb for distribution and Brandwatch for social listening. Its reviews sit a little below Meltwater's (G2 3.9 from 1,357 reviews), and the renewal terms are similar. We go deeper on the Cision alternatives page.

Strengths

  • Monitoring breadth close to Meltwater's: 190+ countries, 96 languages, 3,000+ TV and radio stations, 60,000+ podcasts.
  • 500,000+ journalist and outlet profiles with AI pitch drafting and best-time-to-pitch suggestions.
  • PR Newswire, PRWeb and Brandwatch under the same owner; TrustRadius 8 out of 10 from 458 reviews.

Weaknesses

  • G2 3.9 out of 5; tags include Data Inaccuracy (37), Not Intuitive (28) and Learning Curve (26).
  • No automated follow-ups: a G2 reviewer wishes the outreach tool could send them.
  • Its general terms renew contracts automatically unless you give 30 days' notice, with a 5% renewal increase; Trustpilot 1.6 out of 5 from 32 reviews. Cision carried about $2.5 billion of debt in late 2024 and refinanced in April 2025.

Choose Cision if you need print, broadcast and social monitoring plus a newswire from one vendor and can live with a contract much like Meltwater's.

4. Brand24

Visit site
Best for
Teams that want monitoring with public pricing and no annual contract
Pricing
Public. Individual $199 a month billed annually ($249 monthly) for 3 keywords and 2,000 mentions; Team $299 ($349 monthly) adds unlimited users and 10,000 mentions; Pro $399 ($499 monthly) for 12 keywords and 40,000 mentions; Business $599 ($699 monthly); Enterprise from $1,499 a month. 14-day free trial, no card required.

Brand24 sells monitoring at a public price, without the sales call. You enter keywords and it collects mentions from social, news, blogs, forums, podcasts and reviews, scores sentiment and reach, and emails reports. It claims 25 million+ online sources, but history is about 30 days, there is no print or broadcast, and no media database or pitching at all.

Strengths

  • Public pricing, no commitment and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • G2 4.6 out of 5 from 373 reviews and Capterra 4.7 from 256; reviewers praise the UI and real-time alerts.
  • AI sentiment, AI Insights, events detection and white-label PDF, Excel and PowerPoint reports; unlimited users from the Team plan up.

Weaknesses

  • Keyword caps bite: the entry plan allows 3 keywords across all projects combined.
  • G2 reviewers tag Filtering Problems and Irrelevant Content; a Reddit user calls sentiment "hit-or-miss".
  • About 30 days of history, no print or broadcast, and no journalist contacts or pitching.

Choose Brand24 if monitoring is most of what you used Meltwater for and you want a price you can see and cancel.

5. Brandwatch

Visit site
Best for
Social, brand and insights teams that need deep social listening with longer history
Pricing
Quote only. Vendr reports a median of $50,000 a year across 40 purchases, with a range of $19,542 to $81,200. Brandwatch's UK public-sector rate card (May 2024) lists Consumer Intelligence Pro with 5 queries at £10,800 a year and a Listen Standalone plan at £7,200 a year. Annual contracts are standard; Vendr says 2 to 3 year terms get 15 to 25% off.

Brandwatch, owned by Cision since 2021, is the pick when Meltwater's social listening is the part you value and you want a dedicated listening suite: Boolean queries over 100 million+ sources, Iris AI for query writing and summaries, social publishing with a unified inbox, and an influencer database of 30 million+ creators. It is an insights tool, not a PR tool, so there is no journalist database and no pitching.

Strengths

  • G2 4.4 out of 5 from 730 reviews for Consumer Intelligence; Capterra 4.2 from 255.
  • Added Threads, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn and 70,000+ podcasts with transcript analysis in November 2025.
  • Social publishing, a social inbox and customer-care case management in the same suite, with HubSpot, Salesforce and Zendesk integrations.

Weaknesses

  • Priced for enterprise: a Capterra reviewer says the price point "can be a real barrier" for smaller teams.
  • Vendr says Brandwatch strongly prefers multi-year contracts and advises negotiating out auto-renewal clauses; Trustpilot reviewers describe ignored cancellation emails.
  • Sentiment "can also be inconsistent, especially for non-English content", per a Capterra review; no journalist database or pitching.

Choose Brandwatch if social listening is the part of Meltwater you rely on and you will keep pitching in a separate tool.

6. Agility PR Solutions

Visit site
Best for
Smaller PR teams and public-sector comms that want database plus monitoring with a named account manager
Pricing
Quote only, billed annually. Medialyst (a competitor) cites typical subscriptions of $8,000 to $15,000 and up a year, and a 2025 City of Carmel, Indiana public record lists a $12,500 software subscription. No free trial.

Agility PR Solutions, a subsidiary of Innodata, sells a similar bundle to Meltwater's: a database claiming 1.1 million+ contacts and outlets, monitoring across online, print, broadcast, podcast and social, a flat-fee newswire, and PR CoPilot for AI-written emails. Reviewers repeatedly name dedicated account managers and fast support. The catch is the contract: auto-renewal with 90 days' written notice, a longer window than Meltwater's.

Strengths

  • G2 4.1 out of 5 from 414 reviews; the top themes are ease of use, support and database quality.
  • Monitoring across online, print, broadcast, podcast, radio and social, plus a flat-fee newswire with unlimited words.
  • Slack, an MCP connector and a Media Intelligence API for Tableau and Power BI.

Weaknesses

  • G2 tags Data Inaccuracy (12) and Limited Functionality (13); a Reddit user saw "two contacts only for decent publications".
  • Auto-renews unless you give 90 days' written notice; Capterra reviewers describe being invoiced after asking to cancel.
  • No automated follow-ups found, and a G2 reviewer could not export media reports as PDF natively.

Choose Agility PR Solutions if you want Meltwater's shape at a smaller scale with a named account manager, and will set a reminder for the 90-day notice date.

7. Prowly (now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit)

Visit site
Best for
Small PR and marketing teams, especially those already paying for Semrush
Pricing
Base $149 a month (database, AI writing, email analytics; no monitoring or follow-ups); Pro $279 a month adds online monitoring, scheduled follow-ups and contact export; Business $499 a month adds competitor tracking. Monthly limits: 250, 500 or 1,000 contacts added and 500, 1,250 or 3,500 email sends. 7-day trial.

Prowly was a mid-priced Meltwater alternative with its own database and monitoring. Semrush bought it in 2020, Adobe completed its purchase of Semrush in April 2026, and standalone Prowly is closed to new customers; it now ships as the Semrush AI PR Toolkit. The Pro plan at $279 a month gives you a journalist database, AI-drafted pitches sent from Gmail or Outlook, scheduled follow-ups and online monitoring capped at 3,000 mentions a month.

Strengths

  • Public pricing from $149 a month against Meltwater's $10,000-a-year Starter.
  • AI-Cited Media shows which outlets and journalists large language models cite; open, click and reply stats, plus scheduled follow-ups on Pro and Business.
  • G2 4.2 out of 5 from 111 reviews; praised for ease of use and onboarding.

Weaknesses

  • Monitoring covers online sources only (news, blogs, Reddit, YouTube), with 3,000 mentions a month on Pro; no print or broadcast.
  • Tight caps: 500 sends a month on Base, each follow-up counts as a send, and extra exports cost $149 a month per 200.
  • A Reddit user (2022) calls the database "not as up-to-date as Meltwater/Cision" and a Capterra reviewer mentions bounces; PR is now a small line inside an Adobe-owned SEO suite.

Choose Prowly (now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit) if you need a cheap database, pitching and light web monitoring, and you already live in Semrush.

Meltwater alternatives: common questions

How much does Meltwater cost?

Meltwater does not publish prices, but its own July 2026 blog post gives indicative ranges: from $10,000 a year for Starter, $25,000 for Pro and $130,000 for Enterprise. Buyers on Vendr report a median of $25,800 a year, with contracts from $5,375 to $56,993. Meltwater's blog says media relations is included at every tier, while Vendr's buyer data still lists the media contacts database as a $5,000 to $15,000 a year add-on.

Can I use Meltwater for free?

No. Meltwater has no free plan and no self-serve trial; its pricing page offers a human-guided demo instead. For free or cheap monitoring, Brand24 has a 14-day trial with plans from $199 a month billed annually, and Podscan, a podcast-only monitoring tool, gives verified brands podcast mention alerts at no charge. PodPitch has no free plan either; pricing is quoted on a free demo.

Does Meltwater still exist?

Yes. Meltwater was taken private by Marlin Equity Partners and Altor in August 2023 and says it serves 27,000+ customers. It launched GenAI Lens for tracking brand mentions in AI answers in July 2025, became an official Reddit data partner in February 2026, and shipped a mid-year 2026 release in May with Mira Agent for Slack and Trends Center.

Who competes with Meltwater?

For the full suite, Muck Rack, Cision and Agility PR Solutions. For monitoring alone, Brandwatch (enterprise social listening) and Brand24 (cheaper, with public pricing). For the pitching side, PodPitch, which writes and sends pitches to podcasts, journalists and Substack writers from your inbox. The right one depends on whether you bought Meltwater for monitoring or for its media database.

Is Meltwater reliable?

The product reviews are solid: G2 4.1 out of 5 from 2,677 reviews, Capterra 4.0 and TrustRadius 7.8 out of 10, with praise for monitoring breadth and reporting. The complaints cluster around contracts. Trustpilot sits at 1.7 out of 5 from 17 reviews, none from the past year, with auto-renewal the biggest theme, and a TrustRadius reviewer and an r/PublicRelations thread both say the media database has outdated contacts.

What are Meltwater's contract and cancellation terms?

Meltwater's FAQs set a minimum 12-month term and call 36 months standard. Its general terms say fees are invoiced in advance (annually, per its FAQ), non-cancellable and non-refundable. Contracts auto-renew for the same length at then-current prices unless you give written non-renewal notice at least 60 days before the term ends, and special pricing applies to the initial term only. Meltwater staff say to expect a rate increase at each annual renewal.

How does PodPitch pricing compare with Meltwater?

PodPitch does not publish prices either; a rep quotes them on a free demo. The structure is different: plans are billed every 3, 6 or 12 months, longer terms cost less, and every plan includes unlimited users and client profiles rather than pricing by seats, searches and modules. There is no free plan.

Can PodPitch replace Meltwater's monitoring?

PodPitch's Monitor sends keyword alerts by email across podcast transcripts, news articles and newsletters, which is enough to catch your name in an episode or an article. Teams that also want social listening or broadcast coverage typically add Brand24 at $199 a month, and use PodPitch for the outreach that actually books guests.
