6 Best Cision Alternatives in 2026

Cision is a full PR suite: CisionOne for contacts, monitoring and reporting, plus PR Newswire and PRWeb for distribution. It is also quote only, priced per named user, and sold on annual or multi-year contracts that by default renew with a 5% increase, so the time to compare alternatives is a few months before renewal.

Below are the tools that replace some or all of it, from full suites like Muck Rack and Meltwater to lighter, cheaper options, with a plain note on where Cision is still the right call.

By the PodPitch team. Updated .

PodPitch holds the highest G2 rating of any tool on this page (5.0 of 5), so it is listed first. Every other tool was checked against its own pricing page and public reviews, and where another tool is the better fit for a specific job, we say so. How we picked.

Why people look for Cision alternatives

Quote-only pricing, often five figures, per seat

Cision publishes no prices. Vendr's buyer data puts the median Cision purchase at $12,625 a year (range $3,150 to $30,368), priced per named user, and SpendHound reports an average of $10,618 a year at companies with 50 to 1,000 employees. One r/PublicRelations poster was quoted $12.5K for three seats in 2025.

Auto-renewal with a 5% increase in the terms

Cision's General Terms renew each contract automatically unless written notice arrives at least 30 days before the term ends, and renewal fees “automatically increase by 5%” unless an Order Form or a listed exception says otherwise. Vendr says 2 to 3 year terms are common. Trustpilot rates Cision 1.6 out of 5 from 32 reviews, with auto-renewal, invoicing and hard-to-reach support the recurring themes.

CisionOne migration complaints, and no automated follow-ups found

Cision rolled out CisionOne globally in 2024 and moved Communications Cloud customers onto it; one Reddit user called the switch “forced upon us with little to no prep”. G2's 1,357 CisionOne reviews tag Data Inaccuracy (37), Not Intuitive (28) and Learning Curve (26), and one reviewer wishes the outreach tool were “better equipped to send automated follow-ups”.

1. PodPitch

Best for
Agencies and comms teams that pitch podcasts, journalists and Substack writers and want unlimited users on a 3 to 12 month term
Pricing
Quoted on a free demo call. Plans are billed every 3, 6 or 12 months (longer terms cost less) and include unlimited users. There is no free plan.
Coverage
4 million podcasts, 3 million journalists and Substack writers, drawn from 1.1 billion email addresses that refresh daily. See the database.

Cision's cost is a function of seats and term length, and many complaints on G2 and Trustpilot are about that: per-user pricing, renewal increases, and a contract that renews unless you write in at least 30 days ahead. PodPitch does not charge by seat. Every plan includes unlimited users and unlimited client profiles, so an agency can put every account manager and every client on one subscription, and you pick a 3, 6 or 12 month term, with longer terms costing less. Pricing is quoted on a free demo call.

The daily work is different too. PodPitch searches 4 million podcasts, 3 million journalists and Substack newsletter writers, scores each one for fit, then writes every pitch itself, referencing the show's recent episodes or the writer's recent articles in your own voice. Pitches go out from your Gmail or Outlook with up to two automatic follow-ups that stop when someone replies. Replies land in Magic Inbox, and Booked Media logs each placement with an estimated media value and exports to CSV for client reports.

Be clear about what it is not. PodPitch has no newswire, no broadcast or print monitoring and no social listening; Monitor sends keyword alerts across podcast transcripts, news articles and newsletters by email. Its journalist database covers 3 million contacts and Substack outreach alongside podcasts. A team that sells wire distribution or broadcast clips to clients should pair PodPitch with a wire bought per release.

Where PodPitch beats Cision

  • Unlimited users and client profiles on every plan. Cision prices per named user, according to Vendr, and one r/PublicRelations poster was quoted $12.5K for three seats.
  • A 3, 6 or 12 month term. Vendr says most Cision contracts run 12 months and 2 to 3 year terms are common.
  • Up to two automatic follow-ups per contact, stopping when someone replies. A G2 reviewer wishes Cision's outreach tool were “better equipped to send automated follow-ups”.
  • Sends from your own Gmail or Outlook, with warmed sending mailboxes on Standard and Pro. Cision sends from its platform.
  • Podcast hosts and Substack writers as pitchable contacts, and replies sorted in Magic Inbox. Cision's pages describe podcast monitoring (60,000+ shows) but not host contacts or reply tracking.
  • A 5.0 G2 rating (8 reviews), the highest of any tool on this page, against CisionOne's 3.9 from 1,357.

Up to two follow-ups per contact. Anyone who replies drops out of the sequence automatically.

“We've booked so many more podcasts than I was ever able to secure on my own. This is the best tool I've invested in, including Cision and MuckRack!”

“The database is insane. The fact that, when it writes your email, it mentions past episodes is a huge HUGE timesaver for us.”

What you gain by switching

  • One subscription for the whole agency: unlimited users and unlimited client profiles.
  • A 3, 6 or 12 month term instead of an annual or multi-year contract.
  • Pitches written per contact, sent from your inbox, followed up twice and answered from one place.
  • 4 million podcasts and Substack newsletter writers alongside 3 million journalists.

What you give up

  • No press release distribution. Pair PodPitch with a wire bought per release if you need one.
  • No broadcast, print or social monitoring. Monitor is keyword alerts by email, with no sentiment dashboards or clipping service.
  • A newer journalist product. PodPitch's journalist and Substack outreach launched in 2025 alongside its podcast side, so its longest track record is podcasts.
  • Search needs oversight. Results can sometimes include poor-fit shows and long campaigns drift without review, so check lists before automatic sending. Setup takes time.
  • Pricing is quoted on a demo call, not on a public page, and there is no free plan.

How to switch from Cision

  1. 1Find your renewal date and notice window. Cision's General Terms auto-renew unless written notice is given at least 30 days before the term ends, and an Order Form can set a different window (PRWeb's terms say 90 days), so put the deadline in your calendar today.
  2. 2Save copies of your media lists, coverage reports and contact notes before access ends. If you still need PR Newswire or broadcast monitoring, keep Cision to the end of the term or line up a wire bought per release.
  3. 3If you run a PR agency and your Cision contract ends within 6 months, book the 25 minute switch call. One person from the agency attends on camera, and no copy of the contract is needed before the meeting. After a qualified call the agency gets a $50 Uber Eats or DoorDash gift card (one per agency), and if PodPitch confirms you are a fit and you switch, you pay $99 a month until your current contract's confirmed end date, then the plan's regular price.
  4. 4Bring one client or topic to the demo. The rep runs a live search so you can judge the podcasts, journalists and writers it finds before you commit.
  5. 5Connect Gmail or Outlook, add writing samples and a profile for each client, and review the first batch of pitches before turning on automatic sending.

How we picked these alternatives

On October 21, 2026 we read Cision's pricing, product and legal terms pages, its reviews on G2, Capterra, TrustRadius and Trustpilot, r/PublicRelations posts about Cision pricing and CisionOne, and buyer data from Vendr and SpendHound. We did the same for each alternative: its own pricing page where prices are public, Vendr and review sites where they are not. Pricing guides written by competitors (Prezly, Prowly, Rephonic, Medialyst) are cited only with the author named.

For this buyer, an agency, in-house team or nonprofit leaving or evaluating Cision, we weighted total cost for the whole team rather than per seat, contract length and notice windows, whether pitching includes follow-ups and reply handling, and what you lose on the way out, mainly wire distribution.

We make PodPitch, so it is listed first, and it holds the higher G2 rating (5.0 against CisionOne's 3.9). Its usage numbers come from its own send records, counted on October 21, 2026, and its rating from G2. Where another tool is the better pick, we say so in that tool's review and in the recommendations at the end.

2. Muck Rack

Visit site
Best for
Agencies and brand teams that want a better-reviewed journalist database with pitching, monitoring and reporting
Pricing
Quote only; every plan is “Contact us”. Vendr's median is $13,000 a year (range $8,000 to $20,860), and Rephonic's roundup of Reddit reports puts a single seat at about $3,500 to $6,000. Annual, billed in advance, non-refundable, and it auto-renews.

Muck Rack is the obvious first comparison: the same shape (database, pitching, monitoring, coverage reports) from an independent company, with G2 4.5 out of 5 from 538 reviews against CisionOne's 3.9 from 1,357. It is not cheaper. Pricing is quote only, annual and per seat, and press release distribution, print and broadcast monitoring and social listening are add-ons. More in Muck Rack alternatives.

Strengths

  • G2 4.5 out of 5 from 538 reviews; a Reddit commenter calls it “the most up to date and accurate database”.
  • Sends from your own Gmail or Outlook, with open and click tracking.
  • Podcast monitoring across 2.4M+ shows on Standard and Premier, plus about 800,000 podcast profiles in the database.

Weaknesses

  • Price: a G2 reviewer says the “cost feels quite high for an individual user”.
  • Seat-based and auto-renewing: a Reddit poster reports “I added someone and they charged me $1500 extra”.
  • Follow-ups are manual, and G2 tags Data Inaccuracy (21) and Incomplete Media Coverage (16).

Choose Muck Rack if you want CisionOne's shape with a fresher journalist database and better-reviewed software, and an annual seat-based contract is acceptable.

3. Meltwater

Visit site
Best for
Enterprise teams that lead with monitoring and social listening and want journalists and a wire in the same suite
Pricing
Quote only. Meltwater's July 2026 blog gives indicative ranges: Starter from $10,000 a year, Pro from $25,000, Enterprise from $130,000. Vendr's median is $25,800 (range $5,375 to $56,993). Invoiced annually upfront, non-cancellable and non-refundable.

Meltwater is the other enterprise suite and the closest match to Cision's monitoring depth: 270,000+ news sources, broadcast, social listening, and GenAI Lens, which has tracked brand mentions in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity since July 2025. Its database claims 800,000+ journalists, and media relations with press release distribution is included at every tier. Reviews land near Cision's (G2 4.1 from 2,677). The contract is heavier: Meltwater's own FAQ says the standard term is 36 months. See Meltwater alternatives.

Strengths

  • The broadest monitoring on this page: 270,000+ sources, 240+ languages, sentiment and share of voice.
  • GenAI Lens tracks how AI assistants describe your brand, a year ahead of Cision's July 2026 AI Search Visibility.
  • Press release distribution and a journalist database from one vendor, like Cision, plus Slack, Teams, Salesforce, an API and MCP.

Weaknesses

  • 36 month standard term that auto-renews at then-current prices unless you give 60 days' written notice; Trustpilot rates it 1.7 out of 5 from 17 reviews.
  • Database freshness: a Reddit user reports “lots of outdated contacts, even at large media orgs”.
  • Pitching is secondary: a TrustRadius reviewer calls it “good for large email blasts, but not targeted pitching”, and no automated follow-ups are documented.

Choose Meltwater if monitoring and social listening matter more to you than pitching, your budget is five figures, and you will negotiate the term length before signing.

4. Agility PR Solutions

Visit site
Best for
Mid-size teams and public-sector comms that want a database, monitoring and a flat-fee newswire add-on from a smaller vendor
Pricing
Quote only, annual billing as standard, no free trial. Medialyst, an aggregator that sells a competing product, puts typical subscriptions at $8,000 to $15,000+ a year, below Cision; Vendr publishes no price data for it.

Agility is a like-for-like swap: a media database (1.1M+ contacts claimed), monitoring across online, print, broadcast, podcast and social, an AI writing assistant and a flat-fee newswire add-on. Its database platform was bought from PR Newswire in 2016, so the data lineage overlaps with Cision's. It is a subsidiary of Innodata (NASDAQ: INOD), and G2 rates it 4.1 out of 5 from 414 reviews, with dedicated account managers a recurring theme.

Strengths

  • G2 4.1 out of 5 from 414 reviews; ease of use (36 mentions) and support (26) are the top themes.
  • Newswire add-on at a flat fee with unlimited words, so distribution stays with the same vendor.
  • Unlimited database searches, SSO via Google and Microsoft, Slack through Agility Agent 2.0 (October 2026) and an MCP connector.

Weaknesses

  • Data: G2 tags Data Inaccuracy (12), and a Reddit commenter was “seeing two contacts only for decent publications”.
  • Auto-renews unless written notice arrives 90 days before renewal; Capterra reviewers describe being invoiced for another year after missing that window.
  • No automated follow-ups found, and reporting is basic: a G2 reviewer cannot export media reports as PDF natively.

Choose Agility PR Solutions if you want Cision's shape, including a newswire, from a smaller vendor that may quote lower, and you can work with a 90 day cancellation window.

5. Prowly (now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit)

Visit site
Best for
Small PR teams and marketers that want a published monthly price for a database, AI pitching and basic monitoring
Pricing
Base $149 a month (no scheduled follow-ups, monitoring or exports), Pro $279 (adds monitoring, scheduled follow-ups and 150 contact exports), Business $499 (adds competitor tracking). Send caps are 500, 1,250 and 3,500 emails a month, each follow-up counting as a send; extra users $20 a month. 7 day trial with sending and exports locked.

Prowly was the budget pick against Cision for years. Semrush, which Adobe bought in April 2026, has closed standalone Prowly to new customers and rebuilt it as the AI PR Toolkit: a journalist database, AI-drafted pitches, sending from your Gmail or Outlook, and monitoring on Pro and up. It is the cheapest published route to a Cision-like workflow, with volume capped by plan and extra users at $20 a month.

Strengths

  • Public prices and monthly billing, which Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater and Agility do not offer.
  • G2 4.2 out of 5 from 111 reviews; reviewers praise the low cost versus Cision and Muck Rack.
  • AI-Cited Media finds the outlets and journalists that AI assistants cite.

Weaknesses

  • Database freshness: r/PublicRelations users say it is “not as up-to-date as Meltwater/Cision”, and a 2021 Capterra reviewer said half the emails bounced.
  • Product risk: standalone Prowly is being wound down, and PR is now a small line inside an Adobe-owned SEO suite.
  • Database size is unclear: Semrush's help pages say over 1 million profiles, prowly.com says over 600,000.

Choose Prowly (now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit) if you want the cheapest published price for a journalist database with AI pitching, and 500 to 3,500 emails a month is enough.

6. Prezly

Visit site
Best for
In-house comms teams that already have their media contacts and want a branded newsroom, CRM and campaigns
Pricing
Essential EUR 100 a month billed annually (USD 120; EUR 150 monthly), 1 user, 5,000 contacts. Standard EUR 250 a month billed annually (USD 300), 2 users, 10,000 contacts, own sending domain. Agency plans EUR 300 and EUR 450 a month billed annually. 14 day free trial, no card. Prices exclude VAT.

Prezly is not a database and says so on its homepage. It manages the contacts you already have (5,000 on Essential, 10,000 on Standard), hosts a branded newsroom, sends campaigns with open and click tracking, and logs coverage; monitoring is a paid add-on powered by Opoint. A G2 reviewer calls it “1/tenth of the expense” of Cision or Bullhorn. For a team that mainly sends releases to a list it owns, it is the cheapest clean option here.

Strengths

  • Public prices, a monthly option and a 14 day trial without a card.
  • Capterra 4.7 out of 5 from 67 reviews and G2 4.3 from 77; support rated 4.9 on Capterra.
  • Free migration, plus Zapier, Google Sheets, Mailchimp import and a public API.

Weaknesses

  • No journalist or podcast database; curated media lists are a separate paid service.
  • Essential includes one user and Standard two; Capterra reviewers report campaigns “received as SPAM”.
  • Sends from Prezly's servers rather than your inbox, tracks opens and clicks but not replies, and monitoring is extra.

Choose Prezly if you already own your media list and mostly need a newsroom and a clean way to send releases to it.

Cision alternatives: common questions

How much does CisionOne cost?

Cision does not publish prices; its pricing page lists four packages and quotes after a consultation. Vendr's buyer data shows a median of $12,625 a year across Cision purchases, ranging from $3,150 to $30,368, and SpendHound reports an average of $10,618 a year at companies with 50 to 1,000 employees and $87,883 at 1,000 or more. On r/PublicRelations, one poster was quoted about $12,500 for three seats and negotiated it to $10,000, another paid about $23,000 a year for five seats with broadcast monitoring and social listening, and Rephonic's roundup of Reddit reports starts at $3,500 a year for two database-only seats. Wires are billed separately, per release or in bundles.

Are Cision and PR Newswire the same company?

Cision, owned by Platinum Equity since 2020, owns PR Newswire and PRWeb, but they are sold separately. CisionOne is the software (journalist database, monitoring, analytics); the wires distribute press releases for per-release or bundle fees. PR Newswire's own pricing page was not reachable when we checked; Prezly's guides (September and October 2026) list PR Newswire from $355 (state) to $850 (national) per 400-word release and PRWeb from $120 to $480 per release.

Does Cision auto-renew?

Yes. Section 10.3 of Cision's General Terms renews the contract for the shorter of the expiring term or one year unless either side gives written notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before the term ends, and renewal fees “automatically increase by 5%” unless the prior price was promotional, your services change, or the Order Form says otherwise. Section 5.1 makes payment obligations non-cancelable and fees non-refundable, except after a termination for breach. An Order Form can set different terms, and PRWeb's terms require 90 days' notice, so read your own paperwork.

Is there a free Cision alternative?

Not a full one. Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater and Agility sell on a demo with no free plan or trial, and PodPitch has no free plan either. Prezly offers 14 days free without a card, and the Semrush AI PR Toolkit (formerly Prowly) has a 7 day trial that locks sending and exports. HARO, the free journalist-request service Cision used to own, was shut down by Cision in December 2024 and sold to Featured.com in April 2025, which runs it as a free email again; see HARO alternatives.

Which Cision alternative keeps media monitoring and a newswire?

Meltwater and Agility PR Solutions both sell a journalist database, broad monitoring and press release distribution from one vendor, as Cision does (Agility's newswire is an add-on). Muck Rack sells print and broadcast monitoring and press release distribution as add-ons. PodPitch, Prezly and the Semrush AI PR Toolkit have no wire, so pair them with PRWeb or another wire bought per release.

How much does PodPitch cost?

PodPitch quotes pricing on a free demo call rather than on a public page. Every plan includes unlimited users and unlimited client profiles, and plans are billed every 3, 6 or 12 months, with longer terms costing less. There is no free plan. PR agencies whose Cision contract ends within 6 months can look at the switch offer.

How is PodPitch different from Cision?

Cision is a monitoring and reporting suite with a journalist database and a wire attached; PodPitch is an outreach tool. It searches 4 million podcasts, 3 million journalists and Substack writers, writes each pitch from the target's recent episodes or articles in your voice, sends from your Gmail or Outlook, follows up as many as two times, and sorts replies into one inbox. It has no newswire or broadcast monitoring, so teams that need those pair PodPitch with a per-release wire.

Can a PR agency replace Cision with PodPitch?

It depends on what you use Cision for. An agency that mainly pitches podcasts, journalists and newsletters and reports placements to clients can switch outright and gets unlimited users and shorter terms. An agency that also sells wire distribution can pair PodPitch with a wire bought per release. Bring one client's brief to a demo and judge the search results first.

Which Cision alternative should you choose?

Enterprise comms team that needs broadcast monitoring and a wire

PodPitch runs the outreach: unlimited users, pitches written and sent with follow-ups. Add PRWeb or another wire only for the releases you actually distribute, instead of a multi-year suite contract.

PodPitch, with a wire bought per release
PR agency that books podcasts, journalists and newsletters for clients

Unlimited users and client profiles, pitches written and sent from each account manager's inbox with follow-ups, and a 3, 6 or 12 month term.

PodPitch
Agency or brand team that wants a better-reviewed suite

A 5.0 G2 rating against CisionOne's 3.9, unlimited users, and pitches written and sent rather than a composer you fill in.

PodPitch
Mid-size team or public body that wants Cision's shape from a smaller vendor

Database, monitoring and a flat-fee newswire add-on, with account managers G2 reviewers praise; Medialyst puts typical subscriptions at $8,000 to $15,000+ a year.

Agility PR Solutions
Small team that wants a public price and monthly billing

$149 to $499 a month with a 7 day trial, as long as 500 to 3,500 emails a month is enough volume.

Semrush AI PR Toolkit (Prowly)
In-house team that already owns its media list

A newsroom, CRM and campaigns from EUR 100 a month billed annually, with a 14 day trial and no database fee for contacts you already have.
