7 Best Muck Rack Alternatives in 2026

Muck Rack is well reviewed for a legacy PR database (G2 4.5 of 5 from 538 reviews), but it is quote-only, priced per user and billed a year in advance on contracts that renew unless you email to stop them. Buyers on Vendr report a median of $13,000 a year.

If your team mostly uses it to find contacts and send pitches, you are paying for monitoring you rarely open, and you still edit each pitch and send follow-ups by hand. These are the alternatives, starting with the one that does the pitching for you.

By the PodPitch team. Updated .

PodPitch holds the highest G2 rating of any tool on this page (5.0 of 5), so it is listed first. Every other tool was checked against its own pricing page and public reviews, and where another tool is the better fit for a specific job, we say so. How we picked.

Why people look for Muck Rack alternatives

Priced per user, quoted on a call

Muck Rack's pricing page lists six plans, all "Contact us", and says the quote depends on factors including the number of users. Buyers on Vendr report a median of $13,000 a year (range $8,000 to $20,860). A Reddit poster in r/PublicRelations says adding one user cost $1,500 extra.

Annual contracts that renew on their own

Muck Rack's terms (effective March 12, 2025) bill subscriptions a year in advance, non-refundable, and also cover multi-year contracts. Subscriptions auto-renew, you cancel by emailing your customer success manager, and dropping seats mid-term earns no refund for that term.

Pitching is still mostly manual

PressPal.ai drafts a pitch from a few keywords, which Muck Rack suggests you copy into its pitching tool and edit; follow-ups are sent by hand, in bulk or one at a time. A G2 reviewer says the outreach feature is "often caught by spam filters"; one Capterra reviewer reports a high bounce rate and another found podcasts with no contact available.

1. PodPitch

Best for
Agencies and comms teams that use Muck Rack mainly to find and pitch contacts, especially podcasts and newsletters
Pricing
Quoted on a free demo call. Plans are billed every 3, 6 or 12 months (longer terms cost less) and include unlimited users. There is no free plan.
Coverage
4 million podcasts, 3 million journalists and Substack writers, drawn from 1.1 billion email addresses that refresh daily. See the database.

Most of a Muck Rack seat goes on two jobs: finding the right people and emailing them. Muck Rack gives you a strong list and a composer; PressPal.ai drafts from keywords, but you still personalize, send, follow up and watch your inbox. PodPitch runs that loop end to end. Describe a client and it searches 4 million podcasts, 3 million journalists and Substack writers, scores each for fit, writes a pitch from the contact's recent episodes or articles in your voice (from your writing samples), sends it from your Gmail or Outlook, sends up to two follow-ups, and sorts the replies in Magic Inbox.

The terms are the other half. Every plan includes unlimited users and client profiles, so adding account staff is not buying a seat. Plans are billed every 3, 6 or 12 months, and longer terms cost less. Prices are quoted on a free demo, where a rep runs a live search for one of your clients.

PodPitch started with podcasts and is built around placements: our send records count about 3.5 million podcast pitches sent, plus about 126,000 to journalists and 62,000 to newsletter writers since those launched in 2025. Muck Rack's seat price covers a whole suite whether you open each module or not. When bookings and mentions are the deliverable, especially on podcasts and newsletters, PodPitch does the finding, writing, sending and following up.

Where PodPitch beats Muck Rack

  • Unlimited users on every plan. Muck Rack quotes by user count and bills seats added mid-term at the new rate.
  • Billed every 3, 6 or 12 months. Muck Rack bills a year in advance, non-refundable, and auto-renews.
  • Writes each pitch from the contact's recent episodes or articles and sends it. PressPal.ai drafts from keywords and leaves the rest to you.
  • Up to two automatic follow-ups that stop when someone replies. Muck Rack follow-ups are manual, in bulk or one at a time.
  • 4 million podcasts against about 800,000 podcast profiles in Muck Rack, which adds an email only when it finds an official public one.
  • A Substack newsletter writer database built in house. Muck Rack added newsletter authors in 2021 but publishes no Substack count.
  • A 5.0 G2 rating (8 reviews), the highest of any tool on this page, against Muck Rack's 4.5.

What you gain by switching

  • Pitches written, sent and followed up for you, with replies sorted in one inbox.
  • No per-seat fees: unlimited users and client profiles on every plan.
  • A 3, 6 or 12 month billing term instead of an annual auto-renewal you cancel by email.
  • 4 million podcasts against Muck Rack's about 800,000 podcast profiles, plus a Substack writer database built in house.
  • Booked Media logs each placement with an estimated earned media value and exports to CSV for client reports.

What you give up

  • PodPitch's journalist database launched in 2025 and is growing fast, alongside the podcast database it was built on.
  • No press release distribution. Muck Rack sells it as an add-on.
  • Search needs oversight. One G2 review notes some results can be poor-fit shows, and with automatic sending on those pitches go out unless you review them. Setup takes time.
  • Pricing is quoted on a demo call rather than published, the same as Muck Rack.

How to switch from Muck Rack

  1. 1Find your renewal date. Muck Rack renews automatically unless you email your customer success manager, and access runs to the end of the paid term either way, so send that email well before the date and keep the reply.
  2. 2Export your media lists and coverage reports while you have access (full exports on Standard and Premier; Starter exports are limited). PodPitch builds lists from its own database, so these are your records rather than something to upload.
  3. 3Bring one client to a free demo. The rep runs a live search, shows you the pitches PodPitch would send, then quotes a price.
  4. 4Connect Gmail or Outlook, add writing samples so pitches read like you, and create a client profile per account. Review the first batch before you turn on automatic sending.
  5. 5Run both tools until the Muck Rack term ends. Agencies with a contract end date in sight should read the switch offer question below first.

How we picked these alternatives

On October 21, 2026 we read each vendor's pricing page and, where published, its terms of service, its G2, Capterra, TrustRadius and Trustpilot reviews, and r/PublicRelations threads (through search snippets, since Reddit blocks scrapers), plus Muck Rack's help center articles on podcasts, email integration, follow-ups and add-ons. Where a vendor publishes no prices we used Vendr purchase data and say so.

For this buyer we weighted price per user and contract terms first, since they are the main complaint; then how much of the pitching loop the tool does for you; then podcast and newsletter coverage. We weighted monitoring and reporting less, because a team that depends on them has little reason to leave Muck Rack. Prezly, Prowly and Rephonic sell competing products and publish pricing guides on these vendors, so we name them wherever we use their figures.

PodPitch is our product, so it is listed first: it also holds the higher G2 rating (5.0 against Muck Rack's 4.5). Its usage numbers come from our own send records and its G2 figures from our G2 page on the same date.

2. Prowly (now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit)

Visit site
Best for
Small PR teams and marketers already in Semrush who want a published price
Pricing
Base $149/mo, Pro $279/mo, Business $499/mo, shown as billed annually on Semrush's pricing page; monthly billing is also listed. Base allows 250 contacts and 500 sends a month with no exports or monitoring; Pro allows 500 contacts, 1,250 sends, 150 exports and 3,000 monitored mentions, and adds scheduled follow-ups. Extra user $20/mo. 7-day trial with sending blocked.

Prowly was a standalone PR tool. Semrush bought it in 2020, Adobe bought Semrush (closed April 28, 2026), and prowly.com now sells it as the Semrush AI PR Toolkit, with no new Prowly subscriptions. It covers the same jobs as Muck Rack (database, AI pitching, sending, and monitoring on Pro and up) at a fraction of the price, with monthly caps on contacts, sends and exports.

Strengths

  • Public prices and a monthly option, against Muck Rack's quote-only annual contract.
  • Sends from a connected Gmail or Outlook inbox or an authenticated domain, with open, click and reply stats.
  • G2 4.2 of 5 from 111 reviews, 63% of them five-star.

Weaknesses

  • Database freshness: Reddit users in r/PublicRelations (2022) call it less up to date than Meltwater or Cision, and a 2021 Capterra reviewer said half of a list bounced.
  • Usage caps: Base has no exports, every follow-up counts as a send, and an extra 200 exports costs $149/mo.
  • Semrush's own pages disagree on size (over 1 million profiles on the help center, over 600,000 on prowly.com), and the product is in transition inside an Adobe-owned SEO suite.

Choose Prowly (now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit) if you want a published price under $300 a month and can live with monthly caps on contacts and sends.

3. Propel AI

Visit site
Best for
Agencies and in-house teams of 1 to 7 PR users who want a Muck Rack-shaped database and CRM at a lower quote
Pricing
Quote only since at least November 2025. The pricing page lists Essentials (1 user, 10 alerts), Pro (up to 4 users, 25 alerts) and Premium (up to 7 users, 50 alerts), each behind a demo. The last public prices, captured by the Wayback Machine in August 2024, were $2,400, $9,000 and $15,000 a year. No trial is listed now.

Propel calls itself a PRM: a CRM for PR with an AI media database, an AI pitch writer, native Gmail and Outlook plugins, a Story Funnel pipeline board and ROI analytics, founded by former agency owner Zach Cutler. On Reddit, one poster who spoke with Propel described it as "similar to Muck Rack at a much reduced price"; in other threads, users question its contact coverage versus the bigger databases.

Strengths

  • Native Gmail and Outlook plugins and a pipeline view of every pitch's status.
  • AI journalist search with a "Why Me?" summary and recent articles per contact; unlimited contacts and pitches on every tier.
  • G2 4.4 of 5 from 39 reviews, with praise for the AI features, the inbox plugins and quick human support.

Weaknesses

  • Reddit users say the database is weaker than Muck Rack's, and a 2023 G2 review reports "barely any contacts for major publications".
  • Seat caps of 1, 4 and 7 users by tier, and its own pages give three different database sizes (500K+, 350K+ and 1 million+).
  • Automated follow-ups were announced in October 2026, but details were not published when we checked.

Choose Propel AI if you want the closest like-for-like replacement for Muck Rack's database and pitching at a smaller scale, and your team fits within 7 users.

4. Cision

Visit site
Best for
Mid-market and enterprise comms teams that want monitoring, social listening and a newswire with the database
Pricing
Quote only across four packages (Journalist Outreach, Media Monitoring, Media Monitoring + Social, CisionOne Suite). Vendr buyers report a median of $12,625 a year, range $3,150 to $30,368. Wires are extra: PRWeb runs $120 to $480 per release, per Prezly's October 2026 guide.

Cision is the other enterprise option: CisionOne for database, outreach, monitoring and analytics, plus the PR Newswire and PRWeb wires and Brandwatch for social listening. It claims over 500,000 validated journalists and outlets across 225 countries and territories. Its Vendr median is about the same as Muck Rack's, and it reviews lower (G2 3.9 of 5 from 1,357 CisionOne reviews against Muck Rack's 4.5); a G2 reviewer says it lists far fewer journalists than Muck Rack.

Strengths

  • Monitoring across print, online, TV, radio, podcast and social, with Slack and Teams alerts.
  • PR Newswire and PRWeb distribution under the same vendor.
  • AI pitch drafting, subject lines and best-time-to-pitch suggestions; G2 reviewers praise responsive account managers.

Weaknesses

  • Auto-renews unless you give written notice 30 days before term end, and renewal fees automatically increase by 5% (General Terms, section 10.3, unless an order form says otherwise).
  • Trustpilot 1.6 of 5 from 32 reviews, many about renewals and billing; G2 tags Data Inaccuracy (37 mentions) and Not Intuitive (28).
  • No automated follow-ups, per a G2 reviewer. Cision also refinanced in April 2025, closing about $250M of new financing and pushing debt maturities to 2030 and 2031.

Choose Cision if your problem with Muck Rack is coverage rather than price, and you want PR Newswire distribution or Brandwatch social listening from the same vendor. See our Cision alternatives page.

5. Meltwater

Visit site
Best for
Teams that live in monitoring and social listening and treat media relations as one module
Pricing
Quote only, with indicative ranges from Meltwater's blog: Starter from $10,000 a year, Pro from $25,000, Enterprise from $130,000. Vendr median $25,800 a year (range $5,375 to $56,993). Invoiced annually upfront. No free trial.

Meltwater is a media intelligence suite: monitoring, social listening, GenAI Lens for brand mentions inside ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, and media relations with an 800,000+ contact database and press distribution. It is the only one of the big three that publishes indicative pricing, on its own blog since July 2026. Marlin Equity and Altor took it private in August 2023.

Strengths

  • Monitoring breadth: 270,000+ news sources, broadcast, podcast and social, in 240+ languages.
  • Media relations at every tier, with Gmail and Outlook connected through Nylas and reply tracking through its Integrated Sender.
  • Integrations with Slack, Teams, Salesforce, Power BI, an API and MCP; G2 4.1 of 5 from 2,677 reviews.

Weaknesses

  • Meltwater's community FAQ says the standard contract term is 36 months; it auto-renews at then-current prices unless you give 60 days' written notice.
  • Trustpilot 1.7 of 5 from 17 reviews, 94% one star, mostly about renewals and multi-year lock-in.
  • A Reddit user in r/PublicRelations calls the beat sorting "pretty much useless" with outdated contacts; a TrustRadius reviewer calls it "good for large email blasts, but not targeted pitching".

Choose Meltwater if monitoring and share-of-voice reporting are the deliverable and pitching is secondary. Read our Meltwater alternatives page first.

6. Prezly

Visit site
Best for
Comms teams that already have their media contacts and want a newsroom, CRM and campaigns with public prices
Pricing
Essential EUR 100/mo (USD 120) billed annually or EUR 150 monthly: 1 user, 5,000 contacts. Standard EUR 250/mo (USD 300): 2 users, 10,000 contacts, your own sending domain. Agency plans from EUR 300/mo. Prices exclude VAT; monitoring is a paid add-on. 14-day trial, no card.

Prezly is PR software built around a branded online newsroom, a PR CRM for contacts you already have, and email campaigns with coverage logging. Its own FAQ says it "isn't a generic journalist database". If you use Muck Rack to email lists you built yourself and publish releases, Prezly does that for EUR 1,200 a year on Essential, against Muck Rack's $13,000 Vendr median.

Strengths

  • Public prices, a monthly option and a 14-day trial without a card; you cancel auto-renewal in-app.
  • Capterra 4.7 of 5 from 67 reviews and G2 4.3 from 77, with praise for ease of use and support.
  • Branded newsroom with a story editor; contact import from Excel, Mailchimp and CSV; Zapier, a public API and free migration.

Weaknesses

  • No journalist or podcast database; curated media lists are a separate paid service.
  • Sends through Prezly's servers rather than your Gmail or Outlook, and tracks opens and clicks only, with no reply tracking.
  • Essential includes 1 user and Standard 2; one Capterra reviewer says rates "can be quite steep" on a tight budget, and another says campaigns are sometimes received as spam.

Choose Prezly if your contacts live in spreadsheets, you send releases and campaigns more than cold pitches, and you want a newsroom journalists can browse.

Muck Rack alternatives: common questions

How much does Muck Rack cost?

Muck Rack does not publish prices. Its pricing page lists three plans for brands and three for agencies, all "Contact us", and says the quote depends on factors including the number of users. Buyers on Vendr report a median of $13,000 a year (range $8,000 to $20,860); Reddit posters in r/PublicRelations cite about $4,400 for a one-seat agency starter and $5,750 for two seats. Subscriptions are billed a year in advance and auto-renew.

Is Muck Rack free, and are there free alternatives?

Not for PR teams. Journalists use Muck Rack free, but PR teams get no free plan and no self-serve trial; you book a demo. Among the tools here, Featured has a free plan with about 2 to 3 media opportunities a week, Prezly offers a 14-day trial without a card, and the Semrush AI PR Toolkit has a 7-day trial that blocks sending. PodPitch has no free plan; it offers a free demo call with a live search for your topic.

Can I cancel Muck Rack before the contract ends?

You can cancel, but you get no money back. Under its terms (effective March 12, 2025), subscriptions are billed a year in advance and are non-refundable. You cancel an auto-renewing subscription by emailing your customer success manager; it then does not renew, you keep access to the end of the paid term, and there is no refund for that year. A multi-year contract can be canceled mid-term, but all fees for the full term remain due.

What does Muck Rack do, and how does it compare with PodPitch?

Muck Rack is a journalist and outlet database with media lists, pitching from Gmail or Outlook, monitoring, coverage reports and dashboards, with pitches you write and follow up by hand. PodPitch is built for placements: it writes each pitch from the contact's recent work, sends it, follows up, and logs what you booked.

Does Muck Rack cover podcasts and Substack writers?

Yes, with limits. Its help center lists about 800,000 podcast profiles, mostly active Apple shows with an English focus, and it adds an email only when it finds an official public address; a Capterra reviewer found a few podcasts with no contact available. It added newsletter authors in 2021 but publishes no Substack-specific count. PodPitch covers 4 million podcasts and a Substack newsletter writer database it built in house.

How is PodPitch different from Muck Rack's AI pitching?

Both use AI, at different points. PressPal.ai drafts a pitch or release from keywords; you copy it into the pitching tool, edit it and send it, and follow-ups are manual. PodPitch writes each pitch from that contact's recent episodes or articles in your voice, sends it from your Gmail or Outlook, sends up to two follow-ups, drops anyone who replies, and sorts the replies in Magic Inbox.

How much does PodPitch cost, and what is the contract?

Prices are quoted on a free demo call. Plans are billed every 3, 6 or 12 months, and longer terms cost less. Every plan includes unlimited users and unlimited client profiles. There is no free plan.

Is there an offer for agencies switching from Muck Rack?

Yes. PR agencies whose Muck Rack, Cision or similar media database contract ends within 6 months can book a 25 minute call at /switch. One person from the agency attends on camera, and you do not need a copy of your contract before the meeting. After a qualified call you get a $50 Uber Eats or DoorDash gift card (one per agency), and if PodPitch confirms you are a fit and you switch, you pay $99 a month until your current contract's confirmed end date, then the plan's regular price.
