Episode 358 - Regulate Your Emotions with Dr. Mitch Abrams

Fri Feb 06 2026

Listen

February 6, 2026 The Jōrni Podcast Episode 358 - Regulate Your Emotions with Dr. Mitch Abrams This episode contains adult subject matter and some listeners may be triggered by this content. Listener discretion is advised. We have been told our entire lives that anger is the emotion we need to eliminate, that feeling it at all means something is wrong with us, and that good people do not get angry. The shame we carry about this emotion is more profound than almost any other emotion, and that shame is exactly what keeps us trapped in cycles we cannot seem to break. What if the problem is not that we feel anger but that no one ever taught us how to use it, how to recognize the difference between the intensity that makes us stronger and the point where we lose all ability to think clearly? There is only one letter separating anger from danger, and learning what that letter stands for is the difference between using anger to fuel what we do and letting it consume us. DR. MITCH ABRAMS Dr. Mitch Abrams has a private practice providing sport, clinical, and forensic psychology services, and is also an expert in the treatment of trauma. Since 2000, he has worked inside the prison system in New Jersey and now oversees psychological services for seven of the state’s prisons as Chief Psychologist for Rutgers-University Correctional Health Care. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Rutgers Health-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Abrams is the Founder and CEO of Learned Excellence for Athletes, utilizing anger management training to assist athletes, coaches, and professionals reach peak performance. His new book is: I’m Not F*****g Angry!!! Adjust the Flames to Get What You Want and Need.
